AXION

Contrary to other micro-enterprise programs, IMIFAP focuses initially on granting people living in poverty the necessary tools to take charge of their lives through abilities for life and health education workshops. Once this cycle is complete, we offer training on the necessary practical abilities to start a community bank and successful micro-enterprises. Our participants become organized to create community banks and provide credits to local entrepreneurs, with the technical and financial assistance of IMIFAP. The local entrepreneurs return the loans with interests, generating further capital for the community bank. Over 130 community banks have been established as a result of our micro-enterprise program and 1,364 women have founded micro-enterprises. The impact results have demonstrated that the credit return rate in these projects is close to 100%. A year and a half after the initiation of the projects, all the businesses have proven to be sustainable, a third have paid employees and half of them provide a salary to their owners.
