Biblioburro started in Magdalena Department in Colombia, when professor Luis Humberto Soriano realized that children from the surroundings where not doing their school's homework due to the lack of books, so he decided to use a donkey to bring them books during the weekends. This idea turned out to be very successful, so it was brought to Santa Martha's Sierra Nevada as well. With a help of donkey called Bunzuganu, the library Atikinchukwa with 400 books was created In Nabusimake's Valley. These books are shared among 8 schools, with the help of volunteering parents. Biblioburro started at the end of the year 2006. The objective of the project is to provide the library with appropriate books for children and books about agrarian issues for the community. Later on they aim to get new donkeys to be able to help the 32 schools of the region.
